Server 2008 | The IP address already assigned to another adapter

I’d just done a transfer of one VMware image to another server but the NIC drivers didn’t seem to transfer over correctly. Wasn’t an issue, just added a new virtual adapter but when I tried to add the previously used IP address I got the following message:

Microsoft TCP/IP
The IP address 10.77.77.7 you have entered for this network adapter is already assigned to another 'NIC1'. 'NIC1' is hidden from the network and Dial-up Connections folder because it is not physically in the computer or is a legacy adapter that is not working. If the same address is assigned to both adapters and they become active, only one of them will use this address. This may result in incorrect system configuration. Do you want to enter a different IP address for this adapter in the list of IP addresses in the advanced dialog box?

Just to note, this is not specifically a VMware error either. I have come across this before in a genuine installation.

Windows 7 | Create a Bootable USB Drive

The time has come when we have to move on from the long lasting Windows XP and jump onto the Windows 7 ladder. So my first real post on this will be creating a bootable USB drive.
I tried this process from Windows XP but it wouldn’t read the USB drive as an active partition. So I have to recommend using any OS version above XP ie Vista, 7 or 2008.

Google Chrome Web Browser Insecurity, Get the Cookie!

In my eyes there is a design flaw here but I guess this is something we all should be aware of and most of all think twice about how we are protecting our data. So let’s start with how this came about. This all began when I noticed that a file in Google Chrome browser could be transferred from one machine to the next and leave you logged in with whatever site they were using at the time for example; you’re sat in the living room with your girlfriend and of course you know the admin password to her laptop, you’ve fixed it a few times for her before. You go in remotely at ‘c$’, see the file you need, copy and paste then boom you’re on her Facebook account logged as her chatting to her friends impersonating her. The process is known as cookie stealing or session hijacking.

Want to See the Larger Twitter Profile Images?

UPDATE (21/8/2010): I have come across one URL string that didn’t match this, only one. Maybe they are phasing this out, will keep you posted if I find out.

So you’re checking out someone’s profile image on Twitter and you click the image but only to be greeted by the login page before you’re allowed to see it in a larger size (If it is any larger that is). Well there is a way to see the larger image without logging in due to the simplistic naming conventions that Twitter has given them 8-) .

LAMP Installation with Ubuntu Server 10.04

This guide will walk you through a typical LAMP installation which will consist of Linux Ubuntu Server, Apache, MySQL, php 5.3 and phpmyadmin. There are many guides out there but this is how it was setup in my lab environment, which worked for me. This is a quick setup so obviously a lot more thought has to go into this when deploying as a corporate server.
